- Introit -

People, Look East
(VU 9, Verse 1)

People, look east. The time is near
Of the crowning of the year.
Make your house fair as you are able,
Trim the hearth and set the table.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the guest, is on the way.

Congregation

Peace looks like a flowing river where every living thing has what they need to flourish. Peace looks like a place where those who are weak are not afraid of those who are strong. Peace looks like good Conversations around big tables.

Hope Is a Star
(VU 7, verse 2)

Peace is a ribbon
That circles the earth,
Giving a promise
Of safety and worth.

R: When God is a child
There's joy in our song.
The last shall be first
And the weak shall be strong,
And none shall be afraid.

Call to Worship

We are called into worship and fellowship by the words of John the Baptist.
Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.
We bring our wishes for the world and its people.
Every valley shall be filled,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low,
and the crooked shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth;
and all flesh shall encounter
the salvation of God.
(George Allen, Chatham, Ontario)

There's a Voice in the Wilderness

(VU 18)

There's a voice in the wilderness crying,
A call from the ways untrod:
Prepare in the desert a highway,
A highway for our God!
The valleys shall be exalted,
The lofty hills brought low;
Make straight all the crooked places
Where God, our God, may go!

O Zion, that bringest good tidings,
Get thee up to the heights and sing!
Proclaim to a desolate people
The coming of their King.
Like the flowers of the field they perish,
Like grass our works decay;
The power and pomp of nations shall pass,
Like a dream, away.

But the word of our God endureth,
Whose arm is ever strong;
God stands in the midst of nations,
And soon will right the wrong.
God shall feed the flock like a shepherd,
The lambs so gently hold;
To pastures of peace will lead them,
And bring them safe to fold.

There's a voice in the wilderness crying,
A call from the ways untrod:
Prepare in the desert a highway,
A highway for our God!
The valleys shall be exalted,
The lofty hills brought low;
Make straight all the crooked places
Where God, our God, may go!

Words of Assurance

Make Me a Channel of Your Peace
(VU 684)

Make me a channel of your peace:
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
Where there is injury, your healing power,
And where there's doubt, true faith in you:

R: O Spirit, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace:
Where there's despair in life,
Let me bring hope;
Where there is darkness, only light;
And where there's sadness, ever joy. R.

Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning
That we are pardoned,
In giving to all that we receive,
And in dying that we're
Born to eternal life. R.

Mary's...

And the Choir Response...

In the quiet of the night
Or in morning's early light,
Is your heart
Prepared for a King?

Will you hear an angel sing?
Will your own hosannas ring?
Is your heart
Prepared for a king?

- The Offering -

We Give Thee But Thine Own
(VU 543)

We give thee but thine own,
Whate'er the gift may be,
For all we have is thine alone,
A trust, O Lord, from thee.

For the Healing of the Nations
(VU 678)

For the healing of the nations,
God, we pray with one accord;
For a just and equal sharing
Of the things that earth affords.
To a life of love in action
Help us rise and pledge our word.

Lead us forward into freedom,
From despair your world release,
That, redeemed from war and hatred,
All may come and go in peace.
Show us how through care and goodness
Fear will die and hope increase.

All that kills abundant living,
Let it from the earth be banned:
Pride of status, race or schooling,
Dogmas that obscure your plan.
In our common quest for justice
May we hallow brief life's span.

You, Creator God, have written
Your great name on humankind;
For our growing in your likeness
Bring the life of Christ to mind;
That, by our response and service
Earth its destiny may find.
