Summerlea Candlelight Service 2011

Wednesday evening, December 14, 2011 featured Summerlea's annual candlelight service of
Christmas carols and readings, enjoyed by the Summerlea congregation and
visitors from the surrounding community. The Summerlea choir under the direction of Summerlea music director Connie Osborne included some musical friends plus John Osborne on flute. Elin Thordardottir sang solo and discant with soloist Mel Cockhill in Christmastide Carol (M.D. Ridge). Greeters were Patricia & John Cameron and Suzanne & Wayne Armstrong. Other participants included: Brian Maklan: Opening Scripture Sentence Jacob Osborne: Welcome and Greetings Ruth Heim: Call to Worship Peter Maklan: Prayer of Approach Barbara Costello:Prayer of Confession Nancy Mark: Old Testament Lesson Margaret Lynn: New Testament Lesson Rev. Scott Patton: Introduction of Guest Speaker Rolanda Taylor: Guest Speaker Susan Ippersiel: Offering Dedication Keith McKenzie: A Christmas Prayer Ruth Heim: The Lord's Prayer Caroline Legault & helpers: Lighting of the Candles Rev. Scott Patton: Benediction. The service was followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments in Acadia Hall. Thanks to Ruth Heim for organizing this event and to the Serendipity ladies and friends for arranging and providing the fellowship setting and refreshments. Preparing for the processional, the choir and participants
lined the rear and west wall of the sanctuary.
1. The choir and congregation at song.
2. The congregation listens as the choir sings with John Osborne on flute accompaniment.
The lights are dimmed and all sing "Let There Be Peace on Earth" in the light of the candles.
Then the lights come on and the candles are collected as the choir sings We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Refreshments in Acadia Hall after the service attracted lots of participants.
Once again Summerlea's candle light service inspires us
with the joy and fellowship of the Christmas season.
And once again we express the Christmas spirit
in the words of the traditional candlelight service hymn:
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.
