Good Friday Walk April 6, 2012

The 2012 Good Friday walk took place on a sunny but cool April day. Folks from western Lachine gathered in Summerlea United Church at 9 AM. They walked along the lakeshore pedestrian path to the Italian church at the corner of 44th and Broadway, where a brief service was held. They then returned to the lakeshore to make their way to Resurrection church at 34th Avenue, where they met up with the walkers from eastern Lachine, for a total of some 125 attendees. Here another service was conducted by several Lachine ministers, with music by flautist John Osborne of Summerlea United. Following the service the people moved to the church hall for hot cross buns and water.

Setting out from Summerlea United Church, and walking along the Lachine lakefront pedestrian pathway. The sun shone brightly, but the breeze was cold (note the attire).

A brief service in the church, then along the lakeshore to Resurrection Church at 34th Avenue.

As we approached Resurrection church, we saw the eastern Lachine group already heading into the church, past the Dairy Queen sign.

Entering the church, one of several strollers brought up the rear. The Resurrection church building is shared with a Polish congregation.

The service was led by the priest of Resurrection church, assisted by clergy from other Lachine churches. Summerlea's flautist John Osborne provided musical interludes and accompaniment for the hymns.

After the service, hot cross buns and water in the church hall gave sustenance to the weary walkers, including two Summerlea ladies.
