Summerlea Pie Making 2003 - Saturday

Note: This page contains a number photos, so it may take a while to load them all.

Saturday morning Kevin McKenzie, Rolf Smart and others arrived at 5 AM to mix meat for meat pies. The pots were on the stoves by 6 AM and were then stirred continuously while pastry was rolled in Fellowship Hall. As on Friday, some of the burners seemed slow, taking several hours to reach the boil, so production again took longer than anticipated, but 600+ meat pies were made and in the freezers by supper time.

The total production came to 469 apple, 123 blueberry, 68 strawberry / rhubarb and 910 meat pies for a total of 1570 pies. (The meat pie number includes about 45 boxes of 4 single-serving pies, each box counting as one meat pie.)

A hearty thank you to all participants, some of whom who were there all four days and some who took time off work to be there.
