Apologies: the Prelude & Introit

We light this candle as a reminder that Christ's light burns so bright that even in the darkest of times and places it stands as a beacon of hope, piercing through despair and guiding our steps when the path ahead seems unclear. May this light dwell within us today, warming our hearts and reflecting His love to everyone we meet. Amen.

Call to Worship
(based on Genesis 1: 1-4, 4a)

Let there be light and dark within us;
let waters meet the shores amidst us.
Let the sky be open to our fullness;
let our feet be grounded upon the earth
in this moment.

We are called into a moment
of worship with all of creation.

This Is God's Wondrous World
(VU 296)

This is God's wondrous world,
And to my listening ears,
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is God's wondrous world,
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees,
Of skies and seas,
God's hand the wonders wrought.

This is God's wondrous world,
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their maker's praise.
This is God's wondrous world.
God shines in all that's fair,
In the rustling grass or mountain pass,
God's voice speaks everywhere.

This is God's wondrous world.
O let me ne'er forget
That though the wrong
Seems oft so strong.
God is the ruler yet.
This is God's wondrous world:
Hhy should my heart be sad?
Let voices sing,
let the heavens ring:
God reigns, let earth be glad!

Opening Prayer
(All)

Open to your creation we come, O God.
Like a wave that falls onto the shore,
like a bird that lands in its nest,
like the first star of the night which appears,
we come. Fill our hearts and open our souls
to your wonder. Amen

Prayer for Grace & Transformation

Awesome God, in the beginning you created all things
and said they were good.
Forgive us for the times in which
we have not treated creation
as if it is worthy of our love.

Help us to be more fully
a part of that which is all around us.
Guide us as we journey with you
along this unknown path so that we may
care for your world and live according to your ways.

Forgive our lapses and help us to work for a world
in which all things are treasured
and everything you love is loved by us.

Called by Earth and Sky
(MV 135)

Refrain:
Called by earth and sky,
Promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust,
Treasure of life sanctified,
Called by earth and sky.

Precious these waters, endless seas,
Deep ocean's dream,
Waters of healing, rivers of rain,
The wash of love again. R.

Precious this gift, the air we breathe;
Wind born and free
Breath of the Spirit,
blow through this place,
Our gathering and our grace. R.

Precious these mountains, ancient sands;
Vast fragile land.
Seeds of our wakening, rooted and strong,
Creation's faithful song. R.

Precious the fire that lights our way,
Bright dawning day.
Fire of passion, sorrows undone,
Our faith and justice one. R.

Prayer for Illumination

O God, as your beloved children,
we look for your presence among us.
In ancient words and ancient stories,
speak to our hearts today.

Play of the Godhead
(More Voices #43)

The play of the Godhead,
The Trinity's dance,
Embraces the earth in a sacred romance:
Eith God the creator, And Christ the true son,
Enwined with the Spirit,
A web daily spun in spangles of myst'ry
The great Three-in-One...

Offertory
(MV 191)

What can I do? What can I bring?
What can I say? What can I sing?
I'll sing with joy. I'll say a prayer.
I'll bring my love. I'll do my share.

Lord, You Give The Great Commission
(VU 512 verses 1, 2, 4, 5 )

Lord, you give the great commission:
"Heal the sick and preach the word."
Lest the church neglect its mission,
And the gospel go unheard,
Help us witness to your purpose
With renewed integrity;
With the Spirit's gifts empower us
For the work of ministry.

Lord, you call us to your service:
"In my name baptize and teach."
That the world may trust your promise,
Life abundant meant for each,
Give us all new fervour,
Draw us closer in community;
With the Spirit's gifts empower us
For the work of ministry.

Lord, You Show Us Love's True Measure:
"Father, What They Do, Forgive."
Yet We Hoard As Private Treasure
All That You So Freely Give.
May Your Care And Mercy Lead Us
To A Just Society:
With The Spirit's Gifts Empower Us
For The Work Of Ministry.

Lord, you bless with words assuring:
"I am with you to the end."
Faith and hope and love restoring,
may we serve as you intend,
and, amid the cares that claim us,
hold in mind eternity;
with the Spirit's gifts empow'r us
for the work of ministry.

Commissioning and Benediction
(All)

On this Trinity Sunday,
remembering that God is known by many names,
we have gathered to abide in God's presence.
We have sought to give name
to the one who is beyond naming,
greater than we can imagine,
more than our hearts and minds can hold,
and yet is as close and comforting as our breath.
Now, go forth,
knowing that the blessing of the God
who is beyond naming,
the God who is known in Jesus
and the God who dwells within and around us
will be our strength and courage,
day by day.

Amen
