God of the Sparrow
(VU 229)

God of the sparrow
God of the whale
God of the swirling stars
How does the creature say Awe
How does the creature say Praise

God of the earthquake
God of the storm
God of the trumpet blast
How does the creature cry Woe
How does the creature cry Save? ...

God of the rainbow
God of the cross
God of the empty grave
How does the creature say Grace
How does the creature say Thanks.

Let this candle dance with the presence of Spirit, reminding us of the warmth of the community in which God calls us to gather and the light that shines with wisdom, insight, and clarity for us in our time of worship. Amen

(Words from Peter Chynoweth,
Yellowknife, N.W.T.)

Call to Worship
(From UCC Aboriginal
Day Celebration)

We gather to share in God's dream
of abundant life for all.
We gather to give and receive gifts
of deep emotion, deep wisdom,
and deep love.

With gratitude, we gather as a community to
praise God, to seek transformation,
and to celebrate the power
of the Spirit who is always moving.

We Are One
(VU 402)

We are one as we come,
As we come, joyful to be here,
In the praise on our lips
There's a sense that God is near.
We are one as we sing,
As we seek, we are found;
And we come needful of God's grace
As we meet, together in this place.

We are one as we share,
As we share brokenness and fear,
In the touch of a hand
There's a sense that God is here.
We are one as we care,
As we heal, we are healed;
And we share warmth in God's embrace
As we pray together in this place.

We are one as we feast,
As we feast, peace becomes the sign;
In the bread and the wine
There's a sense of love divine.
We are one as we come,
As we feed, we are fed;
And we feel God's refreshing grace
As we meet at table in this place.

We are one as we hear,
As we hear, heart and hand unite;
In the word we receive
There's a sense that God is light.
We are one as we leave,
As we love, we are loved;
And we seek justice in God's ways
As we move together from this place.

Prayer for Grace & Transformation
(From a UCC's Song of Faith)

God forgives and calls us to confess your fears
and failings with honesty and humility.
God reconciles and calls us to repent
the part we have played in damaging our world,
ourselves, and each other.
God transforms and calls us to protect the vulnerable,
to pray for deliverance from evil,
to work with God for the healing of the world,
that all might have abundant life.
We sing of grace.

Words of Assurance

Come Touch Our Hearts
(MV 12, verses 1,4,5)

Come touch our hearts
That we may know compassion,
From failing embers build a blazing fire;
Love strong enough to overturn injustice,
To seek a world more gracious,
Come touch and bless our hearts.

Come touch our minds
And teach us how to reason,
Set free our thoughts
To wonder and to dream;
Help us to open
Doors of understanding,
To welcome truth and wisdom,
Come touch and bless our minds.

Come touch us now,
This people who are gathered,
To break the bread
And share the cup of peace;
That we may love you
With our heart, our soul,
Our mind, our strength,
Our all,
Come touch us with your grace.
