The Lakeshore Concert Band, directed by Mark Dharmaratnam,
gave a delightful concert of popular works at Summerlea on Saturday evening, June 10. The programme
included Swing's the Thing, Selections from Mama Mia, All Through the Night, Anything Goes, They Can't Take
That Away from Me Summerlea's (solo by Summerlea's own Leslie Field), Guadalcanal March, Georgia on my Mind, The Hebrides Suite, Mancini Spectacular,
Jamaican Rhumba and Caravan.
A standing ovation from the full house brought on an encore (Strike up the Band, if memory serves). After the concert, refreshments were served in St. Andrew's Hall, giving the audience an opportunity to talk with and express our gratitude to the performers. A freewill offering goes towards Summerlea's Organ Fund. We are grateful to the Lakeshore Concert Band for bringing us this delightful evening of entertainment, and for the support of our organ fund. The Lakeshore Concert Band was founded by Morley Calvert in 1967, and first performed at Expo '67. It began as an adult education course at Lindsay Place High School in Pointe Claire, but quickly outgrew those roots and evolved into an independent community band. As it approaches its 40th anniversary, the band is still based in the West Island of Montreal. The group regularly performs throughout the Montreal area, and beyond. Outdoor concerts featuring a varied popular program highlight the summer months, while the winter season features a series of more formal concerts in concert hall venues. Opportunities are sought to support charitable causes, resulting in concerts at schools, hospitals and fund-raising events. You can enjoy more of their music outdoors this summer:
