Pancakes & Baden-Powell

February 22, 2015

What do pancakes have to do with Baden-Powell?
Nothing. Oh well.
Traditionally at Summerlea we have held our Pancake Sunday to coincide with Baden-Powell Sunday. Because.
"Shrove Tuesday (known in some countries as Pancake Day) is a day in February or March, preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), which is celebrated in some countries by consuming pancakes." It tradtionally marks the beginning of Lent.
We may have missed the timing mark but let's not get lost in the details.
It's fun. 'Nuff said.

Thanks are due to Sue McKenzie and Connie Osborne for helping design a service with words and music that had the young folk participating in the reaffirming of their Guiding/Scouting principles.
I can't tell you more about the service as I was busy in the kitchen flipping pancakes and taking the occasional picture!

As you can see above, it was a very busy kitchen under the able Foremanship of Brian Maklan.
Amongst the conscripted were David Pryce, Richard and Greg Legault, Frank Romagosa, John Osborne. I hope I haven't forgotten any!
A special thanks is due to the Roy family who bought, brought, prepared a wonderful Fruit Salad to compliment the lunch of pancakes and ham.
Seen to the right above are Richard and Elena.

But all the cooking was not done in the kitchen!
Here we see Kevin McKenzie adding a special touch with his waffle-maker.
Hockey anyone??
Maybe a Habs fan?

Should there be any doubt that Service and Lunch were a success, simply take a peek at the happy diners!
