Artisan Fair & Book Sale

April 25, 2015

For several years there has been an annual Joint Effort
by the Outreach Committee and the
Girl Guides of Canada, Lachine District.
This year saw a record success with this joint fundraiser.

It is definitely one-stop early Christmas shopping at this annual event. Every Bobble & Bangle and imaginable can be found: hand-crafted jewelry, knitted & quilted goods, sewing, art objects, photography. You name it!

The joint effort (consisting of table rentals, lunchroom and bake table) brought in about $3200 which was split evenly between the Girl Guides and Outreach.

The Book Room, a solely Outreach initiative, garnered another $650. Hence altogether the day resulted in roughly $2250 for the Outreach Committee budget which will form part of the total funds that will be disbursed by the committee to both local and global projects that receive support from Summerlea.

Artisans from far and wide are invited to rent tables from Summerlea and sell their wares. Acadia Hall sees the bulk of the tables, as you can see from the accompanying pictures.

Summerlea regulars will recognize longtime Summerlea member Carolyn Osborne's son Gordon and wife Gabrielle in the upper right. Gordon is a talented local Lachine photographer known for his signature Black and White landscape photographs of Lachine & area.

The home-cooked lunch is always a winner.
The Guides make all the Quiches and Apple Crisp desserts. Various committee & Church members made the hearty vegetable soup and Sue & Kevin (Kitchen Foreman) McKenzie produced the ever popular Chili. How can you go wrong for $7 in advance and $9 at the door?? You cannot, that's how!

The Book Room in the Sanctuary is always popular.
Thanks go to the Rod family and Ruth & Euan Crabb for organizing, setting up and displaying the vast collection.
Seen to the right are Michèle Bitauld and Ruth handling the checkout.

And to leave no space untouched, the West Montreal Readaptation Centre (WMRC) generously give up their space in the old nursery for use by the artisans and for the Bakers of Summerlea.
Immediately to the right is seen Bake Table organizer (and indispensible Outreach member) Dale Romagosa. Thanks Dale! Thanks Bakers!
